Buffing Compounds for Metal Finishing & Polishing

Buffing compounds are composed of tightly sized abrasives held together with glue or grease binders. Different types of abrasives are used on different types of materials such as ferrous metals, non-ferrous metals, plastic or wood. Buffing compounds are designed for the two phases of buffing, "cutting down" and "coloring".

The first buffing phase is accomplished by use of compounds containing aggressive abrasives. However for an application that requires a brighter, higher luster finish, the "cutting down" operation is followed by a "coloring" buffing operation. This consists of buffing the surface again using a buffing compound with a smaller (sometimes less aggressive) abrasive that will bring out the natural color of the material.  There are still other formulations that find a balance so it can provide both cut and color with the same compound.  Schaffner manufactures a complete line of buffing compounds to meet your buffing needs and has organized our product range below.
