Buffing Hints | Buffing Wheel Flanges
The flanges on a buffing wheel help provide structure to the buffing cloth and provide integrity of the buff when pressure is applied by the work piece. The flanges holding the buff should press against the outer edge of the teeth on the clinch ring.
Pressure from the flanges on the ends of the teeth will ensure a safer more even wearing buff.

SIMILARLY, when a crocodiles mouth is clamped over the end TEETH, he can't open his mouth and release the material he holds. |

BUT... clamp him anywhere else and... The same is true of incorrectly clamped buffs... and the buffs can be JUST as dangerous... |

Common Mistakes With Buffing Wheel Flanges:

Mistake #1 This forces pressure from the nuts on the weakest part of the buffing wheel. |

Mistake #2 This forces pressure on to the cloth material which may reduce the life span of the buff and poses. |

Mistake #3 This forces pressure from the nuts on the weakest part of the buffing wheel and is as bad as having no flanges at all.. |

Correct Flanges For a contoured buff, center sections must be the same diameter to maintain pressure between the flanges. See illustration at left. |
